Introducing the Tribal Awards

Published 8 December 2013 4:00 pm

When musicians play, you clap. When a player scores a goal, you cheer. When an architect designs a concrete building, it gets awards. When someone does outstanding work in our technical community, there is a deafening silence. It is time we put that right. Ah, you rejoin, there are awards already. The Tribal Awards are a little different; no “editor’s choices” for us, these awards will be decided entirely by the real community of users. Good bloggers, forum participants, open-source developers and authors deserve the occasional round of applause, the chance to receive accolade from their colleagues, who are best placed to judge professional excellence.

This year we published the successful Tribal SQL book on behalf of an enterprising group of SQL professionals who had never before contributed to a book. Impressed by what they achieved, we decided that Simple-Talk and SQL Server Central should host a series of Tribal Awards, based on votes from the wider technical community.

To kick it off, we’ve come up with the following eleven categories and prizes:

You can nominate up to three people per category, and for as many or few categories as you please. There’s a text box at the end where you can plead your case for your nominees. If you tweet your nominations using the hashtag #TribalAwards you’ll go into a draw for a chance at winning one of three $50 Amazon vouchers – more information is available on the survey page.

Once we have the top nominations in each category, we’ll start the voting for the nominees on December 23, with the Tribal Awards winners to be announced on Jan 7.
