Simple-Talk "mission statement" competition

Published Tuesday, March 20, 2007 8:17 PM

How many people have admired the current "mission statement" for Simple-Talk.com? If you take a look at the top of the Home Page you'll see it…

SQL Server and .NET put simply

How does that grab you? Exactly. That's why we're after a new one ;). The impetus for this was a phrase that one of our star SQL bloggers, Rodney Landrum, came up with recently…

Working with databases on a day-to-day basis

I like that quite a lot. It's snappy and, for me, gets to the heart of the sort of information that we try to provide on Simple-Talk (at least the SQL Server information ).

The challenge is to come up with something better. Post your ideas here. It doesn't have to be the catchiest slogan in existence but it does need to encapsulate what you think Simple-Talk is, or should be, all about. A big challenge needs a big prize, so the winner will receive a highly desirable pair of Sennheiser noise reduction headphones…

There will be some surprise runners-up prizes too (OK, OK, you're right, they will be Simple-Talk goodie bags!)

Cheers,

Tony.

All,

Thanks to everyone who contributed to our drive to find a new mission statement for Simple-Talk. This competiiton is now closed.

I confess that I didn't see any that were better than "Databases on a day-to-day basis", but the effort was appreciated.

I'm going to give first prize to AndyD for being the only one to at least try to work in a beer motif, with:

Pint-sized SQL Server and .NET

At the risk of seeming completely biased, which I am, runners-up prizes go to mmmBeeeer for:

Making sense of SQL

and to EricBrown for:

The Queen's English used for Geek speak

which is a terrible slogan but made me laugh.

If AndyD, mmmbeeer and EricBrown contact me at editor@simple-talk.com, I can get the prizes sent out.

Cheers,
Tony.

Many thanks Tony,
the lovely Sennheiser headphones arrived safely  a while back. And I've drunk a (real) pint to your health. About to start some travelling, so I will test out the noise-reduction feature; even if it doesn't work, they are worth it for the headphones alone - very crisp and clear.
Ta,
Andy
