An update on {smartassembly}, and the release of version 4.2

Published Thursday, January 14, 2010 1:19 PM

Earlier today we released {smartassembly} 4.2. You can download it from:

http://www.smartassembly.com/download/index.aspx

This release, which has been available as a private build for a while, contains support for .NET 4.0 beta 2, and XNA 3.1.

We've also made a few changes to the smartassembly.com website, mainly to try to make it easier for you to find product documentation. The most notable is the addition of links on the support homepage to all of the PDF documentation for the product:

The most recent data I've received from our support team shows that a lot of people were struggling to find the information they needed about the product on the website, so I hope that in the short term this will help.

In the longer term, we'll be bringing {smartassembly} onto the main Red Gate website, and fully integrating the business into Red Gate. This includes all documentation and support functions. Whilst we're still pulling together the project team for this, work has already begun, and we aim to have the process completed in Q2 this year. As part of this release, we're also aiming to fix a large number of the bugs that have been reported by you over the past four months, and improve the usability of the product based on the results of the tests we've been doing.

If you're already a {smartassembly} customer you should find the transition relatively painless, and we'll obviously keep you abreast of developments in the meantime.

In the meantime, if you'd be willing to talk to us about your experience with the product, please email me directly at bart.read@red-gate.com.

About Bart Read

Bart has done many things since he started work at Red Gate Software Ltd in August 2004, but nowadays he's (mainly) the product manager for the .NET Developer Tools. He still feels like this is a bit like admitting you were cheering for the Empire whilst watching Star Wars, but for now he's along for the ride. In a previous incarnation he was a project manager leading the .NET Reflector Pro, ANTS Memory Profiler 5, ANTS Performance Profiler 4 & 5, and SQL Prompt 3.0 - 3.6 projects. He still occasionally writes some code and, in the past, has touched the code for most of the Red Gate SQL developer tools... some of them still haven't recovered from the shock. He was born and grew up in Dorset, was educated in Nottingham and London, and likes music and real ale. His photo is extremely misleading.
