**SQL Prompt 3 Released**

We're very pleased to be able to announce the release of SQL Prompt 3. Get it here:

We've fixed quite a number of bugs since the final beta. Most notably the popup behaviour is significantly improved. We've also added support for SQL Server 7.

IMHO It is not very good practice to release free soft and after some time make new version charged :(

I think your comment would be a fair point if we'd suddenly sprung this on everyone, however the reality is that right from the word go when we released SQL Prompt 2 for free we always made two things clear:

(i) that it would only be free for a limited time period,
(ii) that when SQL Prompt 3 came out you'd have to pay for it.

It's a tactic many other companies use in some form or other as well: either they have a free version and a paid-for version of a tool where some functions are not available in the free version, or an earlier version of the tool is free with the current version being paid-for. It's by no means a new idea.

Bart has done many things since he started work at Red Gate Software Ltd in August 2004, but nowadays he's (mainly) the product manager for the .NET Developer Tools. He still feels like this is a bit like admitting you were cheering for the Empire whilst watching Star Wars, but for now he's along for the ride.
